How many performances does GCDA hold each year?

We hold two performances annually.

When is the major production held, and what does it entail?

Our major production is held in the middle of the year, usually in June, at the Aurora Centre Theatre. It's a fully costumed event based on a story or popular ballet, providing significant stage time for students.

Is there a fee associated with the yearly production?

Yes, a production fee is charged at the beginning of the year to cover some of the costs involved. For 2025, the fee is $65 for students participating in one dance genre, or $80 for those in multiple genres or families with multiple children.

Are there additional showcases at the end of the year?

Yes, we hold a smaller end-of-year showcase in December, usually featuring student choreography for a fun wrap-up.

Examinations:

Which dance syllabi do GCDA classes incorporate for examinations?

GCDA classes incorporate the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA) and New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD) syllabi.

When are examinations available, and which genres are examined?

Examinations are available in term 4 for Ballet (IDTA), Jazz (NZAMD), and Contemporary (NZAMD).

Examinations, whilst encouraged, are not mandatory at GCDA
Caregiver Observation:

Can caregivers observe dance classes?
-
Caregivers are not permitted to watch classes every week due to the noise and distractions that this creates. Caregivers are welcome to observe the last class of every term. However, we request that siblings do not attend if possible, and if unavoidable, they should not disrupt the students.

Dress Code:

What is the dress code for dance classes?

All students are expected to follow the dress code and uniform requirements for each genre/level.

Are there any specific rules regarding jewellery and accessories in class?

No watches or jewellery are to be worn in class, and hair should be up in a bun. Girls should have a hair kit, including bobby pins, bun pins, bun nets, hair spray, and a brush.

How do I enrol in a dance class at your school?

Do you offer trial classes for new students?

Yes, prospective students are welcome to try a class to find the right fit for them.

Attendance and Fees:

How is attendance monitored, and what is the fee structure?

Students are expected to attend all classes, and any absence should be reported via text or email before the class. Fees are payable by the first day of each term, covering a minimum of eight lessons per term.

What are the payment Options:

Invoices will be emailed two weeks prior to the commencement of each term.

Payments are to be made by internet banking.

What happens if fees are not paid on time?

Fees not paid before the term commencement incur a 10% late payment fee. Failure to pay fees may result in students not being permitted to begin the new term.

Are there any discounts or promotions available for multiple enrolments or siblings?

Yes, when multiple family members are enrolled in the school then the family receives a %10 discount.

Choreography and Photography:

Are there any restrictions on choreography at GCDA?
-
All choreography is the property of GCDA. Students are not permitted to use any choreography without permission. Also, photography and video footage may be used for promotional purposes, and parents can advise if they do not wish their child to be featured.
